Oh! I've seen the tent now... I guess it is related with the "greys" and "free spirits" on the show.

50 shades of grey actually. After Luzia bucked the trend I didn't think there would be any going back. Honestly I don't mind! I just had a look at the Facebook page and am surprised at the melt down. It's a new show for crying out loud it's not like they're trying to put Alegria under it.

I saw people mention on Facebook they didn't like the music sampled in the costumes video but I loved it, you can here it most clearly at the end. Sounded thrilling, can't wait to hear how the Finnish singer and instruments like violin are worked in.

La Nouba, Corteo, Delirium, Ovo, Quidam, Totem, Saltimbanco, Immortal, Amaluna.

Cirque was testing live streaming on their YouTube channel yesterday. I think they might livestream the rising of the Volta GC.

*edit* Just asked @Cirque and they said just pics and videos -- no livestream.

Mungo: I think "hissy" is a bit overly dramatic, although the term can also be applied to those having a bit of trouble coming to terms with La Nouba closing, but that's neither here nor there. :)

You'll always find people who complain just to complain - that's their nature - or those who dislike change for any reason. Then there's those who question the necessity of certain changes when there are other more important things to consider. That's me. While I agree that many on HCF's post about the Volta colors had a knee-jerk "I don't like it, that's horrible" reaction, there were others - like me - who asked why it was needed.

Personally, I don't care what color the big top is, but I have questions: 1) from a brand perspective, I'm curious about the decisions that led up to the changes for Luzia, and now for Volta. A change like this is akin to Coca Cola changing the color of its main product from Red to Blue or something else entirely - we associate the Coke brand with the color Red, the white lettering, the wave, etc. Changing a brand's identity isn't something you necessarily mess with (or forumla, as Coke found out in the 80's...) So, why?

2) Why, with all the cost-cutting, changes to shows for financial efficiency, show closings and all that jazz, is Cirque du Soleil using its money to customize the big top for each show? Are these customizations going to just be for the North American market, or will these big top designs jump oceans? In Europe, Cirque's traveled with an all-white big top as you know... will THIS tradition change? And again, why? (and how does this affect tours - if they can't use the tent already in Europe, they have to take the one they have with them... how much weight and time and cost does this add to the transition from continent to continent?)

The answers could be very simple: Cirque felt a need to change up the brand, to revitalize it. Their mission as of late has been to go after you millennials, so, this is probably just one more piece to that. Or it could be that all their past tents have just came to the end of their life and now that they need replacements they said... why not? Let's go crazy!

Okay... I just wonder is all. It's better than "I hate it," isn't it? :)

I wonder this branding adjustment is meant to alleviate market saturation. I'm sure there are several major cities around the world that think "wasn't Cirque just here?" when the big top goes up again. Gone are the days when seeing a Cirque show was a once in a lifetime experience, especially with the advent of arena tours -- maybe this intentional differentiation is meant to combat that.

As for the tent itself, I share the financial concerns and I think it looks boring so far, but I'm also willing to bet it looks beautiful under a brilliant blue sky. We'll see!

Tracker, I am SO SORRY for getting the color wrong. Please forgive me, I shall consult your highly profesional expertise next time I comment on the color of a tent. Richasi, I wasn't addressing your critiques this time. As usual, your comment about the finanacial necessity is a valid one. I just get sick of the children in that group pitching fits over things like a tent color but not being able to back up their claims...which you did.

I dunno, it looks white and dark grey to me in the one or two pictures I've seen of it thus far. If it is light grey it must be, what, 5%?? [Oh No! It's "The Dress" all over again!! ;)]

It kills me... Cirque media teams from various shows will post tent raisings and arena load in/outs ad nauseum to the point where I just don't care anymore. But here you have the raising of a new big top for a brand new show for the first time and what do we get? NOTHING.

LUZIA's snapchat and subsequent videos - on Facebook was it? - came out of the blue, so maybe there's hope yet.

Did they replace the media team at Cirque with monkeys?

No need to be an arse mungojerrie2010. I was pointing out a discrepancy in your comment and the images I saw so that people who haven't seen the image have a clearer idea of what it looks like. Why do you feel the need to freak out with a sarcastic comment?

Yeah rowelle, they probably say that to jazz it up. Compare it to Luzia, that's definitely not white. And silver is literally a fancy way of saying grey. I don't really care either way, but I think it's a weird decision.

C'mon don't fight over a tent! As Richasi said, Cirque is changing to appeal to a different generation. Maybe the golden age of Cirque du Soleil has gone but they know what they're doing  I trust them.

Spoiler alert. "Volta, a young girl who is ignored and alienated by her parents, comes of age on a mystical island at the foot of a volcano, teeming with insect life. On her quest to "find her free" she explores the origins of human evolution in a colorful city where east meets west".

I mean tbh I would watch it if a Quidam/Amaluna/Varekai/Ovo/Totem/Zaia/Dralion show fusion were to exist....

In case you're wondering... Here's the plot of Volta.

WAZ, a popular gameshow host, has lost touch with his inner self in the pursuit of fame, pulling others in the trap of instant glory. But as doubt sets in, WAZ is enlightened by childhood memories as he encounters 'free spirits' who open doors to his inner soul he has long kept shut. On his high-voltage search for meaning, will WAZ find the courage to relinquish his fame, reconnect with his true self, and shine bright?

"A popular gameshow host"... how on earth will they represent that onstage? "Waz is enlightened by childhood memories as he encounters "free spirits" to his inner soul he has long kept shut"... Kooza? is that you?. I need the press conference! I want to see the stage, costumes, music, everything!
