Tatiana Gousarova is on the Quidam dvd with Banquine and Varekai's too right? Wow she has been around. I wonder what the which artist has been in the most amount of cirque shows... I think Elena Lev with Wintuk, Alegria, Quidam, Zaia and I know she did some PR for Zumanity but I don't know if her act was in the show on stage ever. The veteran Banquine troupe has now been with Quidam, Zed, Viva Elvis and Kurios.

As far as I'm aware she's performed in Quidam, Varekai, Corteo, now Ka and possibly Iris and Les Chemins Invisibles too. I think I read that Kit Chatham has been in 7 Cirque shows or something like that.

You know, I find it kinda hard to believe that Corteo's gonna be gone forever after Sunday. Only seven more performances to go!

To be honest, Corteo's retirement is a minor loss to me. Yes, its sad yet another show is closing. But at least this show is going out with a bang under the Big Top and won't suffer a painful death in arena.

Corteo was my first bigtop show in 2005. I was already in love with other shows I knew existed at the time, so I didn’t go into it with as much appreciation as has grown on me today. Corteo is charming, romantic, and really dared to be different with its stage design and presentation. Unapologetically so, by the fact it’s not configurable for an arena. The costumes are beautiful and I love all the gold filigree on the stage. The makeup also really highlights the natural beauty of all the artists. The catalog of touring shows is definitely losing some of its diversity as Corteo is really in its own lane of character, design and vision. As has been said, let’s be thankful we’re not gambling on any loss of quality and experience by having it run the arena reformation gauntlet. Like with any retiring show, I hope a good chunk of the cast and crew find homes on upcoming productions with the company.

Au revior!

Since I've only seen Corteo on DVD and since I'm not a huge fan of the Eastern European, funera/dreamlike theme, costuming or music I'm not hugely devastated by its retirement. Obviously it's sad that a GC show that was widely popular is retiring but I was much more sad about Quidam or Saltimbanco (not because they were arena shows) but because they were quality shows that had a personal impact on me. That being said, all the very best to the cast and crew of the show, and hopefully we can see some acts recycled Ito new shows (maybe even Luzia, who knows!)

The DVD is atrocious. I don't think they hold a steady shot for more than 3 seconds.

Corteo is probably my favorite show... I think it's so beautiful, and it has the set that fits the GC best. I thought the DVD was really good. I'll miss it so much. I will watch the whole show on DVD on Sunday, as a little commemoration :)

Although it took me a while to warm up to Corteo (by the third viewing I was good), I will miss Corteo. I'm glad, though, that it is not going to continue outside of the Big Top. That would be a huge, huge mistake.

^Same. I never put attention to Corteo because I hated the DVD, but I should've known better that cirque DVDs are a disgrace compared to a live show.

A very different concept indeed, but still beautiful with gorgeous music. I just regret that I never got to see Korean Plank =(
I feel like this is the end of an era regarding GC shows.

I don't mind the DVDs so much because they do capture the essence of the live show for me at that time. Thankfully I was able to see Dralion, Quidam, and Alegria not too long after filming, so, much of the show was the same and it helps bring out good memories. Varekai and Kooza's too, although I have memories of premiere rather than Toronto, but, hey... lol. I can't say much about Corteo's because I've only *gasp* seen it once (though I have it). It's just not one I care to watch I guess. La Nouba's recording irks me, though. It doesn't sound right. It doesn't look right. It doesn't feel right. Gah.

Corteo marks the first non-Dragone touring show to fold completely. When Varekai goes, THAT will truly be the end of another era IMO. I'm glad Kooza's still kicking... but I have to think that's coming to an end soon.

If Kooza folds before I get to see it, Imma throw a major temper tantrum. But that's a discussion for another topic ;)

I think you have until 2017 at least... but after that... arena I'd guess. I don't know how they'd do wheel of death in arena. I guess that'd be the first thing to go...

Corteo is my favorite show out of the ones I've seen live and even though I'm sad to see go, I'm glad it's getting its send-off under the big top. Every aspect of the show just worked for me. I feel like Cirque really succeeded in bringing something different with this show. That being said, I've never been a fan of the DVD.

Ew. Kooza in Arena. I can't even THINK of that. Most of the special effects would have to be removed.

As for Corteo, it was my first Cirque show but I don't feel it's a big loss. Not nearly as much of a loss as Alegria or Dralion, but still.

My experience with Corteo is pretty similar to a lot of the others' on here. I really didn't appreciate it at first, even when I saw it live. However, as I have exposed myself to other kinds of circus and theatre, I have really formed a serious love for this show. It was such a departure for Cirque, but it was done so well. The music is absolutely gorgeous for the most part, the acts are great (a cyr wheel act we can all agree upon liking), and it has some memorable characters. Not to mention, the stage is absolutely bitchin. I'm going to miss this show and I'm sad that I didn't get to see it live again once I had realized what a gem it was.

I also saw it at Atlantic Station! But in December 2006. I was the same side as to where they filmed the DVD, and it was beautiful.

As I posted on their Facebook page: "This is so sad. How many more of these closings must I endure?" Seems like so many of them so soon, and all their best shows. :'(

A very beautiful public post on Facebook by Nathan Lerohl about his days in Corteo: https://www.facebook.com/nathanlerohlbassist/posts/1072930106074996
