I'm sure being a Canadian company the hockey seems like a good idea but I'm not sure how this will translate outside of north america if it tours Europe. (Maybe Russia would like it.)

Gee, the aerial straps act is so abstract I wonder if they're making the bold statement that love is good or something? *sarcasm* I might give them a pass here though since its never been done on ice.

At the risk of sounding negative... after viewing all these videos I have to ask myself: what do we need the ice for? I've seen nothing in these videos that warrants an ice rink... nor have I really seen anything that hasn't been done already in more traditional settings.

I think they need the synthetic ice to skate on. There no frozen water.

Colton, i dont think that's what Richasi means. What he is refering to is that despite the synthetic ice, the show hasn't utalised ice-specific routines as much as they could have. Obviously figure skating is just one example, but surely with their C-lab team they could have come up with some new, inovative acts that feature ice as the hero ingredient. All the stuff from the videos could have been easily done on a non-ice stage. The only remotely 'ice' act is the skating with ramps, but that could easily be done on roller blades.

Well its still a pretty small peek at the show, its possible there will be better acts that integrate the ice and acrobatics better. I hope they really have a handbalancing on skates which I've seen videos of and looks super impressive. I mean, just LOOK at this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgUhsaTjAoI&t=156s

Waiter: Yes! Now that would work amazingly in Crystal. I remember seeing a video of unicycle bowls on some talent show and thinking "cirque has to get this act in somehow" and a few years later that exact troupe joined Totem, so you never know, Cirque's talent scouts may have already contacted that guy!

Call it the obvious 'winter' concept of both - but this feels like a Wintuk reboot.

It looks so dull. I feel like there was an opportunity to make a stunning ice show but they cheaped out.

This feels more like a 45degrees production. :/

Nothing about this show excites me. The costumes are terrible, the acts look mediocre at best (and could really have been done on a normal stage). The set is greatly limited due to the ice and even what's there isn't anything to write home about. Haven't heard the music, but I don't particularly want to given how everything else has turned out. Looks like its gonna be another one of there rushed, impromptu ventures thats a dud a will soon fade away.

I feel like the design of the hockey scenes (https://www.gannett-cdn.com/-mm-/a5cb453d6b434166e46b8d5d02d0e004dab09f0...are taken straight from this 45 degree show. It's even got the score board and "realistic" costumes https://vimeo.com/156873428

Not to mention the main girl character looks bored out of her mind.

It also looks/feels more like a Feld Entertainment production than CdS. I think I'd rather see a Disney on Ice show. Better production and less expensive tickets.

They're borrowing heavily from Paramour's 'pass the red wig to different female acrobats to convey the lead characters journey' theme.

Did anyone see the footage of trapeze posted to hcf??? I'm hoping the music isn't the final thing... they were using the most god awful "disco" rendition of Chandelier by Sia whilst two people wearing TVs or beekeeping boxes or something on their head skated in circles below. Not to mention I hate most solo trapeze acts, including this one. There's a very limited amount tricks they can do, you spend half the act waiting for them to swing back and forth to gain height, and then at least in this case, the tricks are incredibly awkwardly executed and repetitive. That was one of the worst acts I've seen As a whole. Oh and the school girl costume is just bizarre.

Rowelle: I was once told it was to be a 45 Degrees production. It may have crossed over, but I doubt it.

I was also told that Crystal has been kicking around for a long, long, long time. Wintuk was based on its original concept, so it's not surprising that it might have something in common with it. And they might even have been able to recycle some elements from it, and Joel, to produce Crystal. I've not seen enough materials from it to know for sure.

I don't mind the core company borrowing from 45 Degrees. Sometimes they have some kick-ass new technologies and presentations that blow anything we've seen before out of the water, but sometimes they're in the wrong context.

I'm not feeling this show either. Its such a shame, this show had potential to be something really grand poetic and spectacular but everything about it looks so dull and by the numbers. And I seriously cannot believe that they are not using original music. I'd say the skating on the ramps is the onlyl act that has a wow factor for me but everything else seems like generic acrobatics.

This review states the music and vocals are live, so that's a positive. It also seems to imply that not every song is a cover of pop music.

Not a single negative.... seems like a load of garbage to me. probably just another "fan" who showers Cirque with praise regardless of the show.

Tracker: Right? Sounds like someone who was real happy to get a free press pass to the show, so they're giving it praise because they don't want to lose those press privileges.

Is it bad that that one clip of straps (I think it was straps) with the Beyonce Halo song made me emotional and almost make me wanna cry? I thought it was kinda beautiful.

Well not everyone feels the need to criticize Cirque like you pretentious assholes. Maybe they genuinely enjoyed it? Shocking, I know.

I shall not stoop to name calling, but instead present a logical counter argument. This so-called reviewer' might actually have enjoyed every tiny aspect of the show... good for them. Doesn't change the fact that this is a poor review (by the dictionary definition) which should expose the highlights AND shortfalls of a show. No show is 100% perfect, hence this is clearly not a credible review.

I suggest you refer to subsection 2 regarding the "CRITIRCAL" nature of a review (https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/review) and while you're at it here's the definition of critical (https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/critical).

Rowelle, that's not bad or wrong at all. Every show will have some enjoyable, quality acts, and the acts in Crystal are definitely not all badly choreographed. What defines a good show is not so much the good stuff, but how interspersed it is with bad acts. Can you link the straps video? I'd love to be pleasantly suprised with this show!

You do not get to decide what is or isn't credible because it doesn't give you what you want.
