(http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/guy-laliberte-on-a-mis...) Back in 2014 it was reported that "Cirque du Soleil was to lend its shows and its creative design talent to the two Dubai firms (who owned 20% of the company at the time). However, when the financial crisis crushed their global real estate ambitions, the indebted Emirati investors could no longer hold their end of the deal. Expecting accelerated growth, however, the Cirque had beefed up its organization at great expense, Mr. Laliberté explained." Perhaps they are going back to these companies to produce the new show.

I managed to also find this on a travel website, published around 2008, which has a page on a new Cirque resident show in Dubai. It was originally scheduled to premier in 2011, but I assume that with the financial instability which hit Cirque around this period including their middle-eastern counterparts, Nakheel and Istithmar World (mentioned in the above post) pulling out of the projects, they postponed the show... UNTIL NOW! It was initially meant to be a show directed by Guy Caron (director of Dralion and KA) and Michael Curry (who specialises in puppetry/props). They planned on building a theatre that seats 1,800 people on Palm Jumeirah (one of three man-made Palm-shaped Islands in Dubai), and in order to test the market, they brought Algeria there in 2009 ahead of the premier which never took place. Right, the original Dubai show was scheduled to open first quarter 2010, but was delayed to 2012. (And the show was being referred to as Dubai 2010.) By June 2011, the show was canceled completely. Martin Lord Ferguson and Ella Allaire had written demo songs for the show though. And while Alegria did appear in Dubai as a prelude to the new resident show, Quidam opened the market in January 2007.

I highly doubt Dubai 2018 will be the show they were going to make in 2010. I was advised it would be a concept for a black box theater.

The show is going to be produced alongside a tourism/hospitality company in Dubai called 'Meeras': http://www.meraas.com/what-we-do/leisure-entertainment/
