The album would be a good listen the first few times, but as The Waiter stated it is just too repetitive. Kurios's soundtrack is walking in the same line as the recent albums, where there a few good songs but the majority are average, ahem Totem. Also the 'na-na' lyrics are pretty irritating.

I just love that, especially 11h11 and Monde Inverse (which makes me think the other music of Balancing on Chairs act like À La Lune or Havi Vahlia, logic since the number is similar)
One critic, the intro '' Music Box style '' of contortion does not seem to be there at the beginning of Hypnotique, very sad

This album sounds very similar to Amaluna, which was almost entirely forgettable. I have no problem with Cirque using the same composers over again, but there is almost no distinct change in musical style from Totem-Amaluna-Kurios. I'm not music expert, but when I listen to the albums composed by Benoît Jutras, I can hear evolution from one show to the next. Alegria sounds nothing like Quidam which sounds nothing like La Nouba. Seems like the last show to have great music was ZED.

Mungojerrie, I respectfully disagree. I think those three albums are still pretty unique from each other. Like I could listen to two songs and be able to tell which is from Totem and which is from Kurios for example. I honestly felt like people were way too hard on Totem's music. Considering the stuff that came before it (Ovo and Kooza and even Zaia for example) Totem is a VAST improvement. I remember Koumaya, I remember Onta, Que Viyera, Toreador. While Jutras and Dupere's work is better in my opinion, I still think that Totem, Amaluna and Kurios have very unique styles: Totem being a mix of tribal rhythms and Indian themed rhythms, Amaluna having rock, and Kurios being Italian and turn of the century themed in it's music. Like, none of the songs in Kurios even remotely remind me of Amaluna's music, because there is a distinct style difference. Like, compare Elma Om Mi Lize to something like Clouds from Kurios.

Agreed Propel, Gravity Levitas is bad but I still think the worst Cirque song out there is Fly Around in Amaluna. I cannot stop cringing whenever I hear it

I wouldn't say the scores of Kooza, Totem, and Amaluna sound alike. However I do think what they have in common is that they have two or three standout pieces, with the rest of the songs being just okay and sounding quite alike. They don't really vary it up a bit with different style.

That's where I disagree. The STYLE'S of each show's music are different and unique from one another. That's not the problem. It's the compositions themselves that's kind of weak, not the style of the music. Like I said, shows like Kooza, Totem, Amaluna, and Kurios each have a very unique style, so it's not that they all are similar because of their style, but because (like Waiter said) the compositions of certain songs are just not as strong. I think Totem is less of a case, for me at least, because I do actually really enjoy Totem's score. I never found Totem's score to be very bland, and I always thought people were a little hard on Totem's music. Kooza however is a great example. Chair Balancing, Contortion, L'innocent and Trapeze for me are memorable tracks, but everything else is "ok" at best, or forgettable (Wheel of Death) or just plain bad (Juggling) at worst. High Wire, Wheel of Death, Charivari, Unicycle etc. etc. Amaluna like wise, though I enjoy it more than Kooza. Kurios is, so far, a step up from both of them, as it's style is unique enough to let it standout. Bella Donna is catchy as hell, You Must Be Joking is pretty fun, and the rest are all pretty decent, though not any of Cirque's best.

Well, I suppose I should give Kurios the benefit of the doubt since I only heard brief clips of the soundtrack LOL. And for the record, I do prefer TOTEM's score over Amaluna's.

Which act is Wat U No Wen set to? I don't think Bicycle made it in either, did Aerial Straps?

I think the main problem with most modern Cirque scores is that they pick a style and stick with it through the entire score without varying it much at all. Like Totem is almost entirely upbeat world music, Kooza Jazz/indi hip fusion, Corteo mediterranian, Ovo Brazillian, and Amaluna girl rock band. And oddly the pieces that break out of the mold stand out the most.

Take Mystere's score for example. The world beat element is present but keeps to the background most of the time. It only comes front and center during Kalimando and Kunya Sobe. It's not like all the musical elements are always front and center throughout the whole thing. They shift around so one takes precedense over another.

Now Corteo is one I definitely disagree on because I certainly don't think it's score is bland at ALL. That show has excellent tracks. Volo Volando, Anneux, Ritonare, El Sielo Sabra, Duo Adagio, Prendesi Per Mano, Sette Ricordi, Ladder, transition out of Cyr wheel etc etc. The only tracks from that show I don't really care for are Bouncing Beds and Juggling but that's about it. Everything else is very solid. Corteo is easily one of the better post dragone shows.

I dunno, the world music element is still very present in Mystere. Egypte has it certainly, as well as Taiko and the finale, Birimbau had it as well. Mystere's style is a mix of world (Kalimando, Egypte) and sort of that jazzy rock flare (Rondo/Double Face, as well as the Korean plank fast track song). Misha mixes the two styles together. Again, I don't think it's the style that makes a show's music good or bad, but rather if the compositions by themselves are good.

I didn't know so many people disliked Totem's soundtrack! For me, the worse has to be OVO. I like a couple of songs, but I think the rest are horrible.

I agree with rolabola; I don't think Totem, Amaluna and Kurios scores sound alike. rolabola, Kurios's music is Italian influenced? I don't know why I was under the impression it was French influenced.

Yeah, I know I'm probably in the minority but I just think Corteo's music is mostly just bland repetitive medterranian music (though i do like the chandeliers, high wire, and cyr wheels songs).

No problem at all, it's your opinion. I always thought that show had strong compositions in it, especially the amazing Prendesi Per Mano (Aerial Straps Duo). Brought tears to my eye hearing it the first time. Corteo to me is one of the most underrated of Cirque's productions. In my opinion it is up there with LOVE, Zed, Iris and the like as being one of the best post-Dragone Shows

in fact, about the order, it is good, that matches with the act order in the show :) But I noticed that there is no music from theAerial Bicycle act and on the site of JURIOS in section acts, it nowhere. Does this act is always present in the show?

There are a few extra songs that don't feature on the album. "Say That Thing" and "Go the We Bap". Maybe they belong to the banquine act.

What about the Hand Puppetry act? Both it and the Aerial Bicycle are gone from the Acts list on both the "official" site and the PR site.

I think they are both still there. The website and even press room were never completely reliable. Ovo's website and press room do not list Contortion at all though I know it is definitely still in the show.
