Richasi: It more has to do with the image that everyone has already of minors performing water meteors in Varekai. It's like how everyone has the image of the the minors who did diabolo in Quidam for years, and then was replaced with 4 adults, and later 1. Everyone's just so used to the original image that seeing something different is weird, in a sense.

I think meteors could do with adult performers. I mourn the loss of the classic costumes. The Quidam groups age was relevant to concepts of youth, children, and I always felt a foil to the four Zoe clones who "dance" around the Father just before their entrance. Their age and their choreography and their retro-space aged costumes really transported you to somewhere new. It was the change in costume and choreography that made it too bizarre. They seemed like cocktail waitresses/gogo dancers. The artists need only be 18 or 19 like when Alegria's contortion pair returned two years after the chapiteau finale. They kept the look and act the same and no one knew the difference. The Ovo Flea Girl turned Quidam Albino in the costume and make up with her tiny size looks like a pre teen.

I think the synchro tumbling is great. I guess to me it feels a bit more animal like than Icarian Games did.

I'm gonna be posting my lil Varekai review on here soon. Do I just put it in this thread, or can I create a new one?

A1F: Oh I understand that, and I agree. But Cirque could have hired young adults to perform the task and it may have been just as nice a performance. Perhaps more so since maybe adults might have had more skills (not that the kids did not). Besides not being able to take kids on the road, it saved them money in the long run. I would assume that's Triple Trapeze was cut too.

Rowelle, you can create a new one! This is kind of a catch all thread for the show, that way your review won't be overshadowed :)

Review

Overall- Great show, Ive seen it 5 times now. The worst of Varekai, and now the best of Varekai. I will say that the synchro tumbling act is incredible!! Those guys have some insane skill that was so smooth and controlled. Straps were out yet again, so we had the single trapeze take its spot. Russian Swings, incredible. Music great, signers sucked.

I have a question about lyrics. Does any one know what the female singer in Varekai sings during the solo on crutches? Thanks!

Wow some really good footage! I love how they kept the sort of star lights behind the forest in the arena. And one thing I saw that I had never seen before is when the Betrothed comes down from the bid to do her act, there are the spider ladies coming down on each side too! I think it looks pretty cool. The show looks in good shape to me. Oh, and another thing I saw that I liked was the baton twirling, I love how there is some sort of routine going on with again the spider ladies. It makes the act a bit bigger.

I have to agree, the lighting is spectacular. Although I might be alone, I've always felt that great lighting can really enhance the visual feeling of the show perhaps even on the same level as the costumes. I love how it looks like light coming through the trees of a forest during Funambul. So awesome. It's such a broad and interesting idea you can play with, and I think that some shows have taken the 'average' path with it.

Just watched it again, and really, the lighting maybe can make up for the arena:)

Lighting at Varekai is still really well done, but it doesn't make up for the arena. Nor Craig's voice =)

I ask myself that question everyday. Isabelle is okay, though no one will beat Zara.

And I guess the original singers will always be the best singers because you get used to their singing through recordings etc. and it's kind of difficult to adapt to a new singer. If that makes sense.

Craig will be departing the show this spring. The gap with no seats around the stages in arenas is usually where the entire first categories of chapiteau seating would be.

Colton: Oh my god, REALLY? I know this is kinda mean, but thank goodness he's leaving. Personally, I found him to never, EVER fit in with the rest of the show. I wonder who the new singer could be? I know I'm dreaming, but having Mathieu back would be amazing.

The replacement I'm eager to find out about is Viktor Kee's in Amaluna.

Quid of course. Who is the male singer again? Isn't it the guy who did Dralion as well.
