"Wrong" really is the wrong word... it was a fantastic show even then; however, it suffered from pacing issues (Triple Trapeze and Aerial Straps switched places), many of the segue scenes ran long, and (as you see in Fire Within), Mathieu had to come on board to sing - so he didn't know any of the words to the songs.

Not to mention that juggling and the Patzivota sequence weren't really added into the show until later in the run. Plus "Le Rêveur" and "Funambul" weren't composed yet - tracks from the movie "Arizona Dream" were used instead (and let's just say that Zara's original rendition of Kèro Hiréyo was... less than satisfying).

I much prefer the Arizona Dream tracks... mostly because that's what I heard first at premiere.

Ha, and oh yes, the Patzivota sequence. In the original version, the "wedding" happened after the Russian Swings

Not when you're visiting, Tracker. The show will be playing Miami and the end of this year.

The composers said EDM and I said WTF? But after hearing the music from some of the video clips, I'm falling in love with the music so far!

I just saw Volta tonight, I'll do my review soon. I leaving for Orlando to see La Nouba in few hours so... I can't wait ! Quickly, it's a super good show but definitely not strong like the past one like Luzia or Kurios. Some act are awsome ( the final BmX act, the duo Bmx/ballerina, the skipping rope) and some act... just most be remove. Like the Acro Ladders . Come. On. I go watch a Cirque du Soleil show. This kind of act just don,t have it's place in a Cirque du Soleil show... The costume arereally one of the best point of the show. I really like each of the character. The music is really good but only some music catch my attention (despite it's all good). And the singer in this show are really creepy (in a good way) They are really in the ''Volta'' world and have no connection to the public at all...

The storyt is also a special point in this show. For me, it's the first show since long ago who have a strong, clear and nice story about a specific charcater, in a specific location. You know what happens and despite the fact that the second half of the show is not strong like the first one, it's still really enjoyable.

Sadly tonight, no Tight Wire and no clown act with Alegria clip or something like this.

Anyways, can't wait to see La Nouba !! :)

Is anyone else encouraged by the music Propel posted to YouTube? Maybe the plot and message are weak, but I'm glad to hear the music is on point! Gives me hope for the show as it develops.

Oh and by the way, maybe that's just a personnal feeling but after seeing the show and think about it, I think Volta is the first CdS show to featured a gay male lead character (please exclude zumanity). Maybe that's a error but thats's the impression it's leaving to me

Oh, I don't know Propel, I do seem to remember a man in silky pants and peacock feathers in La Nouba singing countertenor. :P And Fleur was quite questionable too.

No, I talk about main character in the story. And I never see la nouba singer like that. You should not judge a character by his/her costume :P I never saw Fleur like that. Why did he did make you think he is ? In fact, I never see and think about it when I saw a cirque du soleil show. If I said that about Waz, that's mean for me it was really clear. But maybe i'm wrong too, at the end of the show I didn't see him like that. It's just some day after I realise. So I guess it's open to interpretation

Propel: I think ZumanityDelights was referencing more the fact that 2 of the past countertenors in La Nouba (Isabeau and Ralph) were both gay. But that's beside the point; that's interesting to hear about the main character. I'll keep that in mind when I see the show in September. Though I have to admit that I think that would be a risky decision for Cirque, mainly because not all audiences are necessarily the most liberal in that sense. If it's true, I imagine VOLTA won't be having a stop in Russia anytime soon...

Found Some footage of alot of the show for Volta video sucks but music and sound are very very good

https://youtu.be/sotqb-TUbdU - Opening/Skipping Ropes

https://youtu.be/F-A5FKmAUh4 - Aerial Ladder and Hoop Diving

https://youtu.be/F-A5FKmAUh4 - Hoop Diving and Skates/Bike/Ramps

https://youtu.be/xdrwg-d7Qhk - Skates/Bikes/Ramps and Hair Suspension and Unicycle

https://youtu.be/XFM4ZclUPqU - Unicycle and BMX Ramps

https://youtu.be/oH_10-nyq6Q - BMX Ramps/ Finale

Does this mean that Hoop Diving and Ramps/Skates/Bikes are now in Second Half of show? I just need some clarification here because i thought both of those acts were before intermission. I also know that being in Montreal through Toronto a show goes though tons of changes before it has its US premiere. Is anyone aware of this change or is this because someone was out and they had to restructure it to make up for the absense

I think the topic of an artist sexuality is completely unnescesary to talk about, it's their personal life. As if I see Waz as a gay character, maybe not. The singer striking poses at QPQ is completely sickening! I love when he does that.

Regarding your comment itzthezac, Charivari has always been in the second half but Shape Diving was originally in the first half. Because tight wire is (permanently??) out of the show moving an act from the first act to the second act makes compensation.

---- Thoughts on the videos ----

I really hope they step their game up and make the show more cohesive before the US premiere because VOLTA feels a little over the place. I hate the changes they made to the opening number (the crowd choosing a winner? cmon!) it makes it even more cringy to watch. Hair Suspension feels magical definetly my favourite one. Also Waz dancing at the end is so powerful and moving.

The whole unicycle act is out of place with the music and everything going on in the background. They need to replace unicycle with something more epic.

Ooo, Volta is pulling a Varekai! (acts switching halves)

After watching some of the videos with Unicycle I've come to the same conclusion Rowelle - it's out of place. But we all know it was a replacement for that rope whatever act, which was supposed to accompany that space and music, so it's understandable. You'd hope they'd get these things fixed before filming... that is if the show is really going to be filmed this month as the singer said... but whatever. I just want the CD. Now. Please.

A while back there was talk that CDS had not only a new color big top, but there was to be either shape changing/light display or something new that we havent seen on a big top, but wasn't ready in time for Montreal. Anyone know what I am talking about or what it was supposed to be?

Also, tight wire/slackline is out?! What happened? I was seriously mostly looking forward to that act and I am seeing it in exactly 1 week.

Yeah according to some article, Danielle Lamarre said that VOLTA would had a special lighting for the big top but you know it's June so... it was probably ditched.

I've got no info on tight wire. Dina is still performing with volta but not doing tight wire or highline for some reason. kraze56 I hope you get to see it! :)

Kraze, I remember seeing the video for that a long time ago! I remember it being a giant dome or something in the middle of the stage and it was either responsive to music or the lights on it were powered by the audience. I tried looking for the video on the Cirque YouTube channel, but it's gone.

I've only seen mention of it in one french-language article and then never heard about it again. Maybe it was something they were planning to do and then it didn't work out the way they expected. Or they plan to use it outside of Montreal. The article did say late may or early June but they were having issues...

Reposting from earlier in the thread...

-------

For the first time in its history, the Cirque du Soleil leaves its traditional yellow and blue capital for a white and gray canvas. "The marquee will continually change color and shape," says Daniel Lamarre. It is a new lighting system that will be very spectacular. And it will allow us to celebrate events like St. Patrick's Day Green or Orange on Halloween. "

The marquee should benefit from this new lighting in late May or early June. "We had a little problem with our supplier," says the CEO.
